Wireless technology startup Cognosos has raised $7.1 million from Cox Enterprises. The Atlanta-based company has developed a low-power wireless technology and hardware that allows sensors in cars, parking meters and other devices to transmit data.

Cognosos, a company located in Atlanta, Georgia, developed a low-power wireless technology and hardware that allows sensors in cars, parking meters and other devices to transmit data. In addition to Cox Enterprises, other investors included Covalent Partners and Pete Kight, previous founder of CheckFree. Former Cisco executive Sandeep Vohra will take over as CEO of Cognosos.

For Cox, which operates a large automotive technology business, the investment could mean a future acquisition target to broaden its suite of software services. In the press release, Cox Enterprise stated, “Cognosos has a cost-effective, flexible technology solution that can collect data in a variety of environments where it hasn’t been possible before.”
