Applications that leverage the IoT are where some of the greatest contributions to businesses and consumers are being made.  Where we are seeing some of the most innovative of these applications is in the video analytics space.  This technology is typically found in machine-learning algorithms to video feeds – enabling cameras to recognize people, identify objects and model situations automatically. While many of these applications are relatively new, their growth is being fueled by many newer and more comprehensive technologies.  By combining the increased sophistication of analytical algorithms and lower costs of entry and access to hardware, software, and storage (courtesy of the cloud), business intelligence is being provided with a new – and more powerful dimension.  Two areas of application have seen the most innovation so far; surveillance and retail business analytics.
