It is one thing to have your network attacked by an outside force.  It is quite another to have your network attacked by itself.  Herein lies an example of how a university network hacked itself from the outside in by allowing hackers to use IoT-based devices as entry points. 

Hackers are increasingly building botnets out of unsecured Internet of Things devices and using them to direct traffic at particular targets in order to overwhelm servers with the aim of taking websites and services offline.
