Security for the IoT must start with the most basic security building blocks. This is an opening remark of an article I came across on helpnetsecurity.com. Once I read it, I quickly realized the article was worth sharing among the IoT Sources’ audience. The article centers on addressing the core question, “how can a few security building blocks be all that is needed to secure the IoT?”
It takes the position that “after-market” security is challenging due the very nature of how vulnerabilities are identified and leveraged for an attack. Now, before any objections emerge as this article is read, the author, Netanel Davidi, co-CEO at VDOO, stated,
And no, it is not entirely possible to deal with all known and unknown vulnerabilities with just a small set of security building blocks. However, it makes it significantly harder to exploit vulnerabilities if basic security is implemented.
